The Owners, a local professional couple who purchased the home approximately 7 years ago, immediately saw its potential but were unsure how to effect the transformation so desperately needed and stay within their budget.
At that time the 2-storey, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage was in a run down state with the interior painted in kindergarten blue and yellow!
Over a period of time much essential maintenance was done (mainly by the owners) to arrest structural deterioration and then the aesthetic makeover could begin!
In consultation we settled on the overall “look” they wanted to achieve which could be described as modern country cottage with an Asian influence. Having extensively travelled, collecting souvenirs and artwork, they were keen to incorporate them in the design.
We started on the entry and main living area. The soaring 2-storey entry was overwhelmingly “piney” with garish wall colours making the entry dark and unattractive. We retained the pine stair treads & ceiling but painted the balustrades and walls white and off white. This area now has a WOW factor. In the main lounge we retained the existing white floor tiles but not much else! This room is long and narrow, so we created a more “square” space by judicious furniture placement and use of colour.
The upstairs bedrooms had fabulous very high ceilings and dormer window bays that were completely not being made the most of. Both master and guest bedroom now feature cosy reading nooks to capture the winter sun. Walls and ceilings were painted in the same light colour with colour accents in the window bays.
The transformation is nearing completion with a new kitchen recently installed. A modular kitchen was purchased with the owners doing some of the work and project managing the remainder resulting in savings of many thousands of dollars..
